NST-Maybank Car of The Year 2010: COTY 2U CARnival

A COTY 2U CARnival will be one of the highlights of the New Straits Times/Maybank Car of the Year Awards 2010.

This was announced by New Straits Times Sdn Bhd Group Editor Datuk Syed Nadzri Syed Harun at the media launch of the New Straits Times/Maybank “Car of the Year” (COTY) 2010 held at the Peugeot Blue Box Showroom in Glenmarie recently.

“This inaugural event, to be held from November 20 – 21, is to present to the public the full line-up of all the 60 nominated vehicles for this year’s Car of the Year Awards."

“It is also targeted to bring Malaysian motorists, car models launched in Malaysia for Malaysian roads and car manufacturers together in a celebration of passion for motoring,” said Datuk Syed Nadzri.

“There will also be test drives, a defensive driving course, mini workshops on car safety, In-Car Entertainment (ICE) and Security Rating Awards at this fun-filled family CARnival,” Datuk Syed Nadzri said.

Maybank, Malaysia’s premier banking group and a leading player in automobile financing, is the official title sponsor for the COTY Awards for the fourth consecutive year.

“The Malaysian automotive industry is heading for a record breaking year in sales. With improved confidence of both consumers and businesses, automobile manufacturers are already experiencing greater demand for even better models in the coming year,” said Ashraf Ali Abdul Kadir, Head, Consumer Finance Maybank.

“As an automobile financier, Maybank too benefits from this growth as demand for financing will increase in tandem with the industry. This has already been obvious over the last year, in which we registered automobile loan growth of 12% for the year ended June 2010. This is the fourth consecutive year of double digit growth which incidentally parallels the period we have been title sponsor of the NST-Maybank Car of the Year Awards,” said Ashraf Ali.

Now in its ninth year, COTY is the country’s first motoring award started in 2002 by Cars, Bikes & Trucks, the motoring section of the New Sunday Times, to acknowledge achievements within the motoring industry.

A panel of 9 judges comprising of motoring journalists and other distinguished personalities will be testing over 60 new and substantially facelifted models classified into 13 categories.

New cars launched between November 2009 and October 2010 qualify for COTY.

The evaluation criteria includes styling, value for money, comfort and ergonomics, performance, driving characteristics, safety, emotional appeal and after sales service.

The highest scoring vehicle in each category wins the award for “Best in Class”. The Overall Car of the Year will then be selected from the list of 13 category winners.

The annual award is endorsed and supported by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

The COTY Gala Awards Night will be held on November 26 at The Saujana, Kuala Lumpur. More than 150 top automotive figures are expected to grace the event.

Holden Viva Automatic Ultimate Choice

Holden Viva is the ultimate choice if you are looking for a mid-sized car that isn’t a Corolla. Holden Viva is meant for those buyers on a budget. If you are confused whether to buy it or not then read on.

Very simply, the Holden Viva is a keenly priced automobile and is well equipped, two of the most important factors to consider when purchasing a new car. In addition to this, it has a reasonable performance, agile and is fitted with a proper interior and spacious boot room.

No doubt the ride quality is up to par with its ability to soak up even the worse road surfaces, and the tyre and wind noises are passive. Under cushy and simple conditions the Holden Viva is a quiet and low impact ride. This provides a smooth ride helping to avoid the bumps and jarring of daily suburban driving.

With an average of 7.4 liters per 100 kilometers, you won’t have to worry about the recent fuel price hikes. So is the Viva the small car upheaval that Holden claims? Judged merely in product terms, not by a long shot. But on the sales charts, where things like space, value and features usually add up for more than sharp handling and modern design, the Viva is likely to make an impact.

The Comfortability Factor
There is ample space front up with good seat support and adjustable steering. The steering feels light and direct making maneuvering in the tightest spots quite easy.

Ride Quality
No doubt the ride quality is up to par with its ability to soak up even the worse road surfaces, and the tyre and wind noises are passive. Under cushy and simple conditions the Holden Viva is a quiet and low impact ride. This provides a smooth ride helping to avoid the bumps and jarring of daily suburban driving.

Standard Equipment
With the Holden Viva you get all the standard car features you may look for in a car mid size auto. Good fit-out, four air bags, air-conditioning, power front windows, remote central locking are just a few that are present in this cozy car.

New Toyota Verso-S

Toyota will exhibit at booth at the Paris Motor Show, world premiere, a small van (MPV) referred back of S, and a restyled version of the model inside iQ. The Toyota Verso S re-segment small car family, where several years ago have only one representative: Toyota Yaris Verso.

The Japanese firm's replacement for the long-gone Yaris Verso measures just under 4 meters in length and will compete with the likes of the Kia Venga, Opel Meriva and Citroen C3 Picasso. We don't have anything else in the way of details, but European buyers should expect a similar petrol and diesel engine lineup to the Yaris.

The all-new Toyota Verso-S arrived at the world’s leading at the Paris Motor show in 2010. Underestimated, broad and ill-S Toyota Verso efficiency in the direction of an empty display. This brusquest overall length – to a lesser degree four beats – whatever the MPV in the segment-B in Europe. But attention to contingencies in any practical expression by the spaciousness of the interior design has maximum flexibility, convenience and caliber to understand the end-to-end.

The smallest four-seater in the world, Toyota iQ comes with an internal review at the Paris Motor Show, and the Aygo model comes with a small class connectivity technology, suggestively called Connect. Also, Toyota's stand at Paris will host the FT-CH concept, already presented in Geneva in March 2010, and the Prius plug-in hybrid - an advanced version of the hybrid Prius, which will be available on sale in Europe 2012.

The Redster Unveiling and Super Car Sunday

One of the perks of working at California Car Cover is the opportunity to check out some cool automotive events. Here are some examples of the unique events we get to cover while working for CCC.

The guys at Cinema Vehicle Services and Fireball Time Entertainment invited us to the unveiling of Fireball Tim's latest creation, The Redster. A while back, the manager of Fireball Tim Entertainment asked me if we could make a cover for a top secret project vehicle. After looking at some sketches and hearing what they were looking for, we were on board.
The unveiling of the Redster took place at the Cinema Vehicle Services museum. CVS and Fireball Tim are both based in Souther California and influential in the movie industry. These guys are responsible for supplying the ordinary and extraordinary vehicles you see in many movies and TV shows. Many of the cars that the companies have produced were on display at the unveiling.
The original Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters.

Back to the Future DeLorean, complete with Sports Almanac and Flux Capacitor.

The Redster was built as a new promotional vehicle for Auto Trader Classics. The Chevy truck features many unique and custom touches.
Many local auto enthusiasts and TV personalities were on hand for the debut.

The Redster has tonneau cover that raises to unveil a group of touchscreen Sony VAIO computers so customers can research vehicles on Auto Trader Classic's website.
Thank you to everyone and Cinema Vehicles Services and both John and Tim at Fireball Tim Entertainment for letting us participate.

Yesterday was the last Sunday of the month which meant time for Super Car Sunday. SCS has grown into the place to be on Sunday morning if you are a car nut. On the last Sunday, So Cal locals meet up at the Westfield Promenade in Woodland Hills, Ca from 6am-1030am. The Golden Shine and CCC crew is always on hand to demonstrate products and hand out catalog.
Each show, a particular vehicle make is the featured brand and gets preferred parking. This past Sunday the featured car was Porsche, so it was row after row of 911s and a few other unique models.

Once the sun comes out, the people come out. The prime time is always between 8-9am.
For more information on Super Car Sunday check on the official website:

Hopefully see you at the next show.

SPESIFIKASI Proton Satria Neo S2000 | Rilis November

SPESIFIKASI Proton Satria Neo S2000 | Rilis November

After launching the Proton Exora President (premium) in the arena and IIMS 2010, Proton will also launch the Proton Neo S2000 Satrio hatchback engine capacity of 1600 cc 2 doors.

The plan will be launched Proton cars 20 November 2010 in Jakarta next. Cars are imported directly from Malaysia.

"20 November we launched the Proton Neo S2000 Satrio 1600 cc. The plan at the mall," said General Manager of PT Proton circulation Indonesia detikOto Mazlan told last weekend.

Proton Neo S2000 Satrio hatchback 1600 cc engine brings the Campro CPS was asked as a racing engine by Proton. Protons enter the two variants namely the transmission of both automatic and manual.

Mazlan explained, the price of Proton Satrio Neo S2000 is 1600 cc in accordance with the concept promoted. Proton Neo S2000 Satrio 1600 cc automatic cost Rp 198 million, while Proton Neo S2000 Satrio 1600 cc manual will priced USD 188 million.

The 2 litre Proton Super 2000 engine is derived from the 1.8 litre engine fitted to Proton’s Waja model and has been further developed by MEM’s engineers to produce a reliable 278 bhp @ 7600rpm with a usable power band from 5,500 to 8,500rpm.

Combined with the best 6-speed sequential 4WD Super 2000 transmission currently available, (the “532” version from market leaders Xtrac), the car sets new standards for engine performance and driveability.

The fuel system innovates too with a quick-change fuel control cassette, (which includes all the fuel pumps, filters and valves), attached to the MEM-designed FIA FT3 safety fuel cell to aid rapid maintenance.

Alcon provides the braking power with their latest Super 2000 alloy 4-pot calipers and ventilated discs which combined with the Neo’s low overall weight of 1150kg gives astoundingly short braking distances. The ventilated disc sizes are independently maximised for both Gravel, (15” rims), and Tarmac, (18” rims), but for both simplicity and cost the brake calipers are common to both setups thanks to a simple mounting arrangement.

MEM’s engineers have designed the suspension with a relatively conventional layout of wishbone and MacPherson strut, which means it will be easy and relatively cheap to maintain whilst remaining super-reliable. However, the design has cleverly maximised damper travel to such an extent that the bump stops are the only part that stops the body sills hitting the ground on full bump travel! This translates into achieving both an ultra-low tarmac setup with go-kart levels of body roll and a long-travel gravel setup with enormous ability to soak up the biggest bumps.

With various anti-roll bars available for both front and rear and with MEM’s 25 years of rally experience, the suspension setup can be easily fine-tuned for any rally surface or type.

The latest technology is used in the electrical systems with a state-of-the-art Multiplexed wiring system capable of managing the entire car’s electronics from a central unit ideally placed in the centre of the car in-between the driver and co-driver. Apart from the weight saving reduction that this achieves, it is simple to operate and, with automatically resetting circuit breakers, this is technology and reliability at its best.

The result of all this is a car which not only has well-proven technical advances and novel design but also has simplicity where appropriate to ensure the best possible combination of performance and reliability.

"The price is very competitive and appropriate, USD 198 million for the automatic and manual USD 188 million," said Mazlan.

Mazlan hartchback two door car believed there were no rivals in Indonesia. Because different specification promoted by the cars on the market four-wheel Indonesia.

"This car is no match for him in Indonesia. Specified car in RI does not have the same with our cars that will be marketed. And the buyers are also very segmented," Mazlan believes.

Volkswagen Vento – All that you want to know!

The Vento is a very important car for the Indian market. For a very long time, there has been a void in the Indian mid-size car segment. Although there are cars like the DZire, Fiesta, SX4, Verna, and Linea trying to fill up this space, either they do not look the part, or the engines are not good enough. The City comes across is a very good car, but then it’s very expensive. The Vento in that sense presents itself as an all-round package. It’s a well engineered German sedan which is powered by good engines. We are sure it will create a dent in the Honda City sales, and take some customers away from the top variant customers of the rest of the brands as well. Here’s all that you need to know about this handsome new German saloon.

Brief Overview:
The Vento is the first sedan from Volkswagen to be designed and built for a market like India. It is the company’s second volume model after the Polo in India.

The Vento is designed on elegant, understated lines. It was developed in Germany and built in India

The Vento is 4384mm long, 1699mm wide and 1466mm tall. Vento has a wheelbase of 2552 mm and a turning radius of 4.97m.

The Vento has two engines.

A 1.6 L petrol engine with 77kW/105 PS. This engine can attain a maximum fuel efficiency of 14.4 km/litre for the AT version and 15.83 km/litre for the MT version.

The 1.6 L 77kW/105 PS diesel engine will attain the highest fuel efficiency of 20.54 km/litre. This version is not available in AT

The Vento is available in two trims – the Trendline and Highline in both the petrol and diesel variants.

Front: The Vento offers a smart and elegant look. The front maintains the typical Volkswagen design look like that of the Polo. It comes with chrome trimmed front radiator and line grille that adds to its elegant, very well proportioned look. The chrome finish on the front air dam and the fog light surrounds of the Vento add to the elegant front.

Rear section: Just like the rest of the car, the rear too is neatly designed and offers a harmonious look. The wide rear window offers good visibility behind the sedan while continuing to maintain its strong dynamic lines. The squarish tail lamps give a stylish contour to the Vento and perfectly blend with the rear design. The rear light clusters with the chrome lining add a touch of elegance.

The Vento offers 480 litres of boot space for its passenger which is good enough for a family for pack their bags and drive away for a week for a holiday.

Side profile: The straight and muscular lines on the side profile of the Vento are typical of VW design DNA. The Vento looks sturdily built from the sides, with a strong emphasis on the big wheel arches which lend the car an air of muscle and sturdiness. Additionally, the body coloured side mirrors and door handles in the Vento Highline add to its slick look. The extended C pillar ensures ample space in the rear of the car is clearly visible.

Front Passenger Seat:
The interiors aredone up in two tone trim, and the dashboard has been designed to cut glare.

The Highline variant of the Vento offers power steering wrapped with genuine leather and can be easily adjusted according to the driver’s convenience.

Driver’s seat is height adjustable for comfortable driving.

The front door is equipped with 1 litre bottle holders, sunglass compartment inside the glove box

Center console includes 2 cup holders, front center arm rest, sun visors with ticket holder on driver’s side, vanity mirrors on passenger side

Rear Passenger Seat:
The Vento with a long wheelbase offers good legroom

The Vento has rear AC vents for the passengers seated at the rear seats of the car.

A unique feature provided in the Highline variant of the Vento which no other car in any category offers to customers is the ability for the rear seat passenger to push the co driver’s seat from the rear itself, thereby further enhancing passenger comfort.
